David
Girard Vineyards’ 2004 Coeur du Terroir Rouge
Single
varietal wines tend to highlight the vineyard and celebrate the
circumstances of good soil, good weather and good handling. Blends,
however, offer winemakers the chance to really show off their artistic
skills and demonstrate what masters can do with the right grapes. In
the hands of Mari Wells and David Girard Vineyards, the 2004 Coeur du
Terroir Rouge is a deft and lovely work of art that is sure to wine
hearts. A jewel in the glass, this wine puts its best foot forward with
bright, ripe fruit and an earthy, muted structure that gives it a rich
mouth feel that ends in a soft, fast finish. A subtle dance of black
cherry gives this wine a sense of playfulness. Melt-in-your-mouth
flavors make you wish it would linger a bit longer, but there’s always
a little more in the glass!
